At ESCO, innovation isn’t just a corporate value, it’s part of how we show up to work every day. We’re constantly looking for smarter ways to deliver projects, support our teams, and build future-ready infrastructure. Over the past few months, that commitment has taken shape in two major ways on the job site: through advanced fiber optic systems and cutting-edge wearable technology.
Smarter Fiber Installs
One of our most exciting upgrades is happening at an industrial facility, where we’re rolling out Sumitomo’s FutureFlex air-blown fiber system. Instead of the traditional pull-and-pray method, this setup uses a modular design with multiple tube sizes (from 2 all the way to 24 tubes) that can flex and scale as needed.
Here’s the beauty of it: once the tubing is installed and tested, we can simply blow fiber through the network—saving time, reducing labor, and boosting safety. No more crawling through tight spaces or manually pulling cable over long runs. When it’s time to make connections, we use fusion splicing and test everything with OTDR equipment to ensure rock-solid reliability and offer warranty-backed confidence.
The up-front effort is worth it too. With this system in place, future expansions are plug-and-play, quick, clean, and cost-effective.
Hands-Free Tech with RealWear Headsets
We’re also stepping into the future with the introduction of RealWear headsets in our field operations. These voice-activated, hands-free wearables let team members:
- Make Microsoft Teams calls
- Access OneDrive and key documents
- Capture site photos and videos
- View procedures while working with both hands
Our first major use case will be on project performing QA/QC work, where the headsets will support real-time photo documentation, checklist execution, and even remote system troubleshooting. With live video and audio, off-site team members can literally see what a technician sees and guide them through issues instantly.
They can even capture infrared images, which opens a whole new level of remote diagnostics.
This Is Just the Beginning
These aren’t just cool gadgets or trendy upgrades. They’re part of a larger strategy at ESCO to work smarter, safer, and more efficiently. As we continue to invest in tools like modular fiber systems and wearable tech, we’re also investing in the people who use them equipping our teams to lead the industry into the next generation.
Stay tuned. We’re just getting started.
