GENERAL SAFETY RULES

  1.  General Safety Rules
    1.  THINK – then act safely.
    2. Get full instruction on work to be done before starting a job.
    3. Anticipate possible dangers and plan work to avoid them.
    4. The use of necessary safety equipment, where required, IS MANDATORY.
    5. Do not use any equipment unless authorized to do so. Anyone deliberately misusing company tools, equipment, or safety material will be dismissed.
    6. REPORT ALL ACCIDENTS and injuries to your foreman immediately.
    7. Employees working in areas where there is a possible danger of head injury from impact, from falling or flying objects, or from electrical shocks and burns, shall be protected by protective helmets.
    8. Wear clothing suitable for weather and your work.
    9. Employees must wear protective equipment for all operations as directed.
    10. Lift correctly; use your legs, not your back.
    11. Obey all safety signs.
    12. Replace any safety sign, barricade, guard, or other safety devices that have been moved for work purposes.
    13. Compressed air or gas must not be used to dust off hands, face or clothing. Use of compressed air or gas for these purposes can be fatal, unless compressed air is under 30psi and designed for employee use.
    14. Do not climb or walk on scaffolds or walkways unless all guardrails, floorboards and toe boards have been completed. All openings in the floor must be barricaded or covered and labeled “hole” or “Cover”.
    15. Employees must be tied-off at all times when working from an unguarded surface at heights of more than six (6) feet above the floor or ground level. Some worksites require employees to be tied-off at heights of more than four (4) feet. Check site requirements.
    16. Do not remove or tamper with guards or protective devices on any equipment. They are there for your protection.
    17. Always shut down an engine when refueling.
    18. Walk around your machine, check all controls completely, and fill out all pre-operation check sheets before beginning operations.
    19. Watch out for moving vehicles.
    20. Keep speed and operation methods in line with job conditions.
    21. Never approach a machine from the blind side. Be sure that the operator is aware of your presence before approaching.
    22. Never use gasoline or carbon tetrachloride to wash parts.
    23. Intentional misuse of company vehicles will not be allowed.
    24. It is forbidden to ride on the running boards of trucks or equipment, or to jump from trucks or other moving equipment.
    25. It is forbidden to ride on the load, hook, or headache ball of any crane, derrick or other lifting or hoisting apparatus.
    26. Never work under a suspended load.
    27. Keep trench banks clear of objects that might fall back into it.
    28. The use of torches for comfort heating is not permitted under any circumstances.
    29. Observe and promote good housekeeping. A clean job is a safe job; it shows that we are all professionals who care about our work and our fellow employees.
    30. Never engage in “horse-play”.
    31. Firearms will not be allowed on any job, except by authorized personnel, such as police, etc.
    32. No intoxicating beverages are to be taken or used in, or around the job.
    33. No fighting or gambling will be allowed.
    34. “Drugs”, pep pills, tranquilizers and the like are NOT to be taken on the job UNLESS WRITTEN PERMISSION IS GIVEN BY A QUALIFIED PHYSICIAN. It is the employee’s responsibility to advise his or her foreman of ANY MEDICATION which could affect or impair his/her ability to safely perform job duties.
